The turn of events following the emptying of The Little Free Library warmed my heart. I'd love to include this story (with links to your page/site) in my weekly share The Sunday Six. Please do let me know if that would be ok.
Jena, Can I post this (my response) but with full attribution to YOUR POST on my new (but so far unused) Substack blog? Not sure how this all works. Total newbie!
But reading & responding to your blog, (and a couple others) really gets me thinking - and especially WRITING - more than I have in many years. Finally feel like I have something to say on a blog - that some friends & family have been encouraging me to start since blogs first became "a thing ".
But as I wrote, above, I don't know how this works and what's allowed.
I DO know that your blog is constantly thought-provoking and truly I INSPIRING. In both your aspirations and your doubts. In you allowing us to follow your trail of thought as you process your trajectory (too strong a word) from one point to another, to another & another ... including your digressions along the way.
Allowing us to see how we are all human, IM-perfectly so, and how THAT's OKAY, because no one is perfect. I think that's what makes your blog so relatable.
Hi Karen, that is so wonderful that you're feeling inspired and ready to write! You are more than welcome to reference or link to my posts on your Substack. One way I think you can do this is to put in the whole URL (in this case, that would be https://jenaschwartz.substack.com/p/friday-dispatch-the-little-free-library) and I think it will actually embed it into your post. Beyond that, not sure I can be of much technical assistance but I am certainly cheering you on! Thank you for your kind words about my writing – that means so much to me. Shabbat Shalom!
Just re-read this entire post -in one sitting. (Realized I'd only read the part about the "Little Pink Free Library" before. Or maybe I had read the entirety of this post and was just too overwhelmed to process ... or comment .... because I do remember reading about the Jewish Studio Process (which I love & find so inspiring) AND seeing your illustration.
I'm overwhelmed. It's a lot to take in.
And yet your words express exactly how overwhelming and terrifying it is to be living in the here and now, in a place we thought was safe, in a place where the "shared-values", communal contract has been ripped apart.
My husband is working hard with several pro-democracy groups. I admire his enthusiasm and belief that we can turn this horror around. But each project they're working on takes time. And I'm afraid that's time we don't have.
I love this Jena. Connection. Hope. A little pink free library. And I love your book - I have the digital copy - so I can't take a photo with it very easily - but I do love it nonetheless.
Speechless! Such writing! Blessings! xooxo, Mom

I love your book, So much. I understand what someone else said, that having the book nearby brings comfort x
Juliet, that means more to me than you know. Thank you!
