The Moment I Stopped

The moment I stopped resisting my resistance, something caught my eye – the glint of light in shards of glass arranged in a circle around a hole in an old shed I'd never noticed before.

I wandered through the thicket and stepped inside to find someone had made a whole world there. It reminded me so much of the one I created for myself when I was 10 years old.

Inside, I found a girl twirling with a flower in her hair, friends sitting and talking under a tree, a rose, a summer sky, an abandoned hive.

After, I tromped on the frozen earth thinking about the patterns that have played out over the course of at least four generations, and wondered what I would want to write for the ones yet to come.

Surely, it will have something to do with spaces like these, spaces we walk past and don't see until we do. Spaces that bring us back to our essence in some imperceptible way, before they send us home to the life we have made for ourselves.
