Friday Dispatch: Three, Two, One...
Blasting off into 2026
Friday greetings,
Yes, it’s a new year, but why does it feel like an actual year has passed since last Friday? I didn’t have a 2026 calendar for my office wall, then realized I could use the back of last year’s calendar to create my own, month to month. It feels right somehow to approach the year this way, rather than laying it all out at once.
The January page is simple and spacious so far: A majestic mountain goat, for Capricorn season. A woman crossing an expanse on a horse-driven sleigh, denoting confidence, competence, movement, and direction. A sweet, well-fed seal on the ice, reminding me to nourish myself and also protect what is vulnerable. And lots of white space, to fill – or not.
Three Writing Prompts
Looking through the camera roll on my phone to see what caught my eye this week, three things stood out:
Shelter
Shadow
Shape
I am going to use each of these as a writing prompt this week. Want to join me?

Two Pondering Questions
David Brooks writes: “We all need energy sources to power us through life, and love is the most powerful energy source known to humans.”
He offers this question: “What are you loving right now?”
Patti Digh notes: “It’s a New Year, and the calendar insists on its clean lines and numbered boxes, as if time itself were orderly, as if our lives move forward in tidy increments.”
She goes on to ask: “What are you still carrying?”
One…
One what, though? Hmmmm.
One God. One life. One people. One world. One goal. One song. One direction. One day. One idea. One proposal. One step. One breath. One look. One shot. One way. One kiss. One-eyed Jack. One look. Blink once for yes. One in a million. One and done. One and only. One love. One heart. Let’s get together and be alright…
What is your “one” today – and how will it inform you?
And with that, my friends, we blast off into 2026.
Shabbat Shalom and love,
Jena
